Exploring Tokyo’s Premier Shrine for Healing Illnesses: A Visit to Karasumori Shrine!

Hello, this is the site manager.

Today, I would like to introduce one of Tokyo’s most renowned shrines for healing illnesses.

The shrine is located surprisingly in the heart of the city and is especially known for its benefits in warding off cancer. It is a beloved place for locals.

It’s just a three-minute walk from Shimbashi Station, accessible by JR Yamanote Line and Toei Subway. Despite being in a bustling area full of office workers, the shrine is not well-marked…

This is Karasumori Shrine.

The deities enshrined here are:

  • Ukanomitama no Mikoto
  • Amenouzume no Mikoto
  • Ninigi no Mikoto

The shrine is known for various benefits such as:

  • Prayers for victory
  • Prosperous business
  • Skill improvement
  • Family safety

It is also quietly known as a shrine for cancer prevention.

For more information, visit the Karasumori Shrine website.

Additionally, the shrine is unique for enshrining Amenouzume no Mikoto, the god of performing arts, attracting many celebrities and TV personalities. (Nippon TV and Dentsu are nearby.)

Karasumori Shrine gained fame as a place for cancer prevention due to its protective amulet, which offers prayers for not just prevention and healing of cancer, but also for strengthening the recipient’s spirit to overcome the illness.

Karasumori Shrine stands majestically amidst the city’s hustle and bustle. When I visited, it was just before Tanabata, so the shrine was decorated for the occasion.

There is also a place on the right-hand side where you can write your wishes and take a break.

This spot was located immediately to the right after entering the torii gate. (There are two other similar rest areas as well.)

The grounds are well-maintained, creating a very pleasant environment. The decorations were beautiful, so I took a photo.

True to its name, Karasumori Shrine features charming crow motifs.

While the shrine is not very large in terms of area, it is a serene and powerful place. Stepping out from the shrine, you are immediately back in the lively city streets, creating a striking contrast.

Why not visit Karasumori Shrine this summer?
